What to do in Luxembourg without blowing your budget?
Luxembourg City offers a wide range of fun and cultural events throughout the year, which can be enjoyed freely, for free or at reduced prices. Museums, concerts, festivals, games and cultural passes make it possible to enjoy Luxembourg on a small budget. And when you can treat yourself without breaking the bank, Pluxee says yes! So here is our selection of events and money-saving tips to enjoy yourself without counting every cent.
Wander through museums for free (or at a very low price)
Luxembourg City is full of museums that are as interesting as they are varied. Some are free to visit. This is the case of the Casino Luxembourg – forum d’art contemporain, a museum of today and tomorrow that champions experimentation. Other institutions, such as the Musée Dräi Eechelen, in the casemates, and the Musée National d'Archéologie, d'Histoire et d'Art (MNAHA), right in the city centre, offer free access to their permanent collections.
At certain times of the year, you can also see Luxembourg City’s museums in a different light, and for... free. During the Museum Night, in October, several cultural venues immerse visitors in a unique atmosphere. The Luxembourg Museum Days also return every year in May: for one weekend, a great many Luxembourg museums open their doors to the public free of charge.
Enjoy a concert, even when you're broke
Whether traditional or modern, music is always part of the party in Luxembourg. And you can enjoy it all year round without breaking the bank!
Since 1983, from January to March and from October to December, the Concerts de Midi (lunchtime concerts) are held on certain Fridays around the city. Taking place in different venues, they offer free midday musical moments of great variety.
In the heart of winter, the flagship event of the festive season, the Winterlights, hosts many free Christmas concerts in multiple locations. Choirs, brass bands and small groups brighten the city’s illuminated streets.
In summer, the whole city beats to a musical rhythm. As part of Summer an der Stad, there is no shortage of free musical entertainment, and the bandstand on Place d’Armes hosts all kinds of concerts (brass bands, concert bands, music groups, etc.). The Blues’n’Jazz Rallye also sets the tempo: one of the capital’s biggest open-air events! The Fêtes de la Musique or Kinnekswiss loves are among the other events organised by the city during the summer season with free or reduced admission.
Play endlessly... and for free
When it comes to games, head to the Rotondes.
In autumn, game lovers (with a capital G) can head to the Game On festival, where admission is free. Aimed at young and old alike, this event offers games for every taste (wooden games, board games, video games...) and hosts workshops and tournaments.
Also at the same venue, the Geek Foire is held regularly. True to its name, it revolves around 80s and 90s pop culture and gaming trends. Admission is free here too.
In summer, for the kids, during Kanner in the city, the city turns into a giant (and free) playground for a weekend. Water games, assorted workshops, wooden games, fun experiments... Quite simply, our little ones don’t know where to look!
