Anne, could you introduce us to Alavita? How did the business start and develop?

Anne Harles (General Manager of Alavita): Alavita was born some time ago, in 1999, from the desire of my predecessors to open a store dedicated to organic and local products. For me personally, the adventure began in 2018, with the takeover of the store in Junglinster. Driven by the enthusiasm of a loyal, committed clientele in search of healthy consumption, we have gradually expanded our offer and our presence in Luxembourg. Today, Alavita has a restaurant, a catering kitchen and 4 stores (with a fifth in preparation) where we offer a wide range of products: groceries, fruit and vegetables, wines, cheeses, breads and pastries, drugstores, health supplements and butchers. Our mission: to facilitate access to more conscious, healthier and sustainable consumption, while supporting producers and brands that share our commitments.

How do you help consumers eat healthily and responsibly?

A.H.: In our stores, we offer a rigorous selection of healthy products, favoring short circuits and/or organic farming. We are totally transparent about the origin and composition of our products, and we place great value on customer advice and good communication on social networks.

Over the past few years, we have also been developing our catering service: every day, tasty organic dishes are prepared in our kitchen to enable our customers to eat healthily during their lunch break. Last but not least, we serve healthy, organic food every day in our Alavita Kitchen restaurant.

Why is it so important to rethink the way we eat and consume today?

A.H.: Rethinking the way we eat and consume is now a necessity, both for our own health and that of the planet.

On the one hand, the rise in illnesses linked to industrial food production shows the limits of a system based on mass production to the detriment of nutritional quality. On the other hand, the environmental impact of our current consumption patterns (pollution, waste, overproduction, deforestation) is no longer acceptable.

By adopting healthier, local and organic food, we reduce our exposure to harmful additives, support committed producers, limit our carbon footprint and preserve natural resources. It also means finding meaning in our daily choices, and consuming less but better!

Responsible, healthy consumption... What does this mean? And how do you contribute to it?

A.H.: Responsible, healthy consumption is all about making wise choices. Opting for quality products that respect the environment and whose origins we know. But it also means reducing waste - we pay a lot of attention to this - when we buy. Even if the product is slightly damaged, rather than throwing it away, we prefer to make a good jam, transform the product into a tasty dish at the restaurant or donate it to an approved association.

At Alavita, we contribute to this process on a daily basis.

In addition to the products and services available in your stores, what additional services and support do you offer?

A.H.: In addition to our stores and a home delivery service, we offer a catering service, to provide tasty, healthy, organic dishes in our stores every day. We also offer this service for private or professional events. You can also treat yourself in our Alavita Kitchen restaurant. It's a convivial place (privatizable) where, every week, our chef proposes a new menu of dishes of the day.

What are the advantages of accepting Pluxee meal vouchers as a means of payment?

A.H.: Accepting Pluxee meal vouchers allows us to democratize access to healthy food. It can encourage consumers to eat better during their lunch break. For us, it's also a way of reaching out to a wider customer base, with almost 85,000 Luxembourg workers benefiting from the Pluxee meal voucher.
