We'll take you on a tour of some of the best places to drink the season's inevitable mulled wine, see an open-air film, or test your ice-skating skills...
During one of your festive getaways, don't hesitate to warm up in one of Luxembourg's comforting addresses that accept Pluxee meal vouchers, or to take advantage of your Pluxee Gift vouchers in one of our partner stores.
1- Wonder in Luxembourg City
With over 80 kilometers of garlands of lights and 500 decorated Christmas trees, the capital will soon be decked out in lights for the festive season. From November 22 to January 1, Winterlights will be taking up winter quarters in several locations across the capital.
Alone or accompanied, with friends or family, you're sure to find the perfect place to spend a good time in the Christmas spirit.
As every year, the traditional Letzebuerger Chrëschtmaart will be set up on the Place d'Armes, right in the heart of the city. Here you'll find the usual chalets for a drink, a bite to eat and some Christmas shopping.
A little further on, on Place Guillaume (where the town hall is located), you'll find activities and entertainment to keep your children occupied while you enjoy a glass of mulled wine. Creative workshops, shows and storytelling are all part of the Winterkids program.
Another of the city's landmarks, the Place de la Constitution (home to Gelle Frä), will be the site of the Wantermaart. Here, you can climb aboard the Ferris wheel and enjoy a splendid view of the illuminated city.
On the Place de Paris, near the train station, the Niklosmaart will be the focal point for Saint-Nicolas. He and his procession will pay a visit at around 2:45pm on December 1. He will hand out goody bags to well-behaved children and continue his tour of the city center.
This year, the skating rink returns to Kinnekswiss Municipal Park.
2- Eating hot chestnuts in Clervaux
Further north, the town of Clervaux is preparing a series of events and activities around the pleasures of winter from November 29 to December 1 and on December 8.
In the heart of the Christmas village, you can sample winter specialities, including hot chestnuts and traditional spiced mulled wine.
There's plenty to see and do, including concerts by the Harmonie municipale, as well as great activities for youngsters: reading a children's book, meeting St. Nicholas, puppet theater...
There will be a free shuttle bus from the station to the town center. If you're joining friends, meet them at the “Chalet de l'Avent”, a meeting point where you'll find food and drink, served by the town's various associations.
3- Enjoy an open-air cinema in Esch sur Alzette
The famous Escher Krëschtmoart kicks off on November 29. Visitors will be able to warm up with a glass of mulled wine and a piece of stollen (traditional cake) at 7pm.
The Esch-sur-Alzette Christmas Market runs until December 22. Located on the Place de l'Hotel de Ville, this year's market will feature 24 stalls offering pastries and hot drinks.
A new feature at the end of 2024 will be the possibility of extending the experience by going to see a film at the open-air cinema, set up for the occasion on rue Helen-Buchholtz, not far from the Christmas market stalls.
4- Playing the minstrel in Dudelange
In Dudelange, at the end of the year, you can take a trip back in time.
Visit the traditional Christmas market on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville for a concert. Then take a few steps and venture over to Place Frantz Kinnen. This is where the magic should happen. In an instant, you'll find yourself back in the Middle Ages, in a medieval Christmas market.

Dudelange's Christmas markets (traditional and medieval) will take place from December 6 to 15.
5- Try ice skating on artificial ice in Differdange
The 47th edition of the Differdange Christmas Market promises plenty to do! The oldest Christmas market in Luxembourg will take place from November 29 to December 22 on Place du Marché.
Why not start with a visit from Saint-Nicolas, on November 30 from 2pm? Then take a trip to the 175 m2 ice rink set up in the pedestrian zone. You'll notice that this is no ordinary ice rink, as it will be entirely artificial. Indeed, as part of the Net Zeri Deifferdeng 2030 project and to limit energy consumption, the city has come up with a solution to enable its visitors to enjoy the pleasures of ice-skating while preserving the environment.
On December 8, a race for adults and children will be organized in the city center. There will also be the chance to attend concerts, take a ride on the free carousel, or vote for the city's most beautiful tree in a contest.
On December 15, your children can enjoy a range of activities and workshops, as well as dreaming about a magician's performance.
There'll be plenty to do in Differdange over the festive period.
